Two new LED emitter assemblies offer outputs of up to 250 lumens for Pila GL2 and GL3 flashlights

Pila GL2

Pila GL2

HONG KONG - Keeping modularity of Pila flashlights in perspective, the present Cree XR-E (120 lumens) is being replaced with the more powerful Cree P4 (180 lumens) as standard emitter. As an even more light intensive option, Pila offers Cree Q5 with a light output of 250 lumens!

The new P4 and Q5 LED emitters are regulated from 3.7V to 9V and are fully interchangeable with Pila 6V Xenon (GL2) and 9V Xenon (GL3) lamp assemblies! Like all Pila flashlight, the new LED emitters can be powered with standard lithium CR123A as well as with rechargeable Pila Li-ion batteries.

As additional option and for personal safety, P4 and Q5 LED emitters can be driven by CODEX™ field-programmable modules.

Run Times -- Pila GL2

LED Emitter (Peak lumens) Batteries Run Time (useful light) Notes
P4 / 180 lumens 2 x CR123A > 6 hrs Dimming
P4 / 180 lumens 1 x Pila 600P > 4 hrs Dimming
Q5 / 250 lumens 2 x CR123A > 6 hrs Dimming
Q5 / 250 lumens 1 x Pila 600P > 4 hrs Dimming

Run Times -- Pila GL3

LED Emitter (Peak lumens) Batteries Run Time (useful light) Notes
P4 / 180 lumens 3 x CR123A > 6 hrs Dimming
P4 / 180 lumens 2 x Pila 300P 2 hrs Constant
Q5 / 250 lumens 3 x CR123A > 6 hrs Dimming
Q5 / 250 lumens 2 x Pila 300P 2 hrs Constant

Notes:

Dimming and Constant Light Output:
Pila flashlights are used for extended operation but also as weapon mounted lights. Users in the field, e.g. when hiking, may opt for longer run time and accept dimming over hours. Pila GL3 as weapon lights have tactical applications where constant light output is preferable.

Red Filter – Xenon versus LED:
P4 and Q5 LED emitters can be used with red filters making them suitable for hunting.

Pila GL3

Infrared Filter (IR 850 nm) – Xenon versus LED:
LEDs are monochromatic and have less IR content compared to Xenon lights; for this reason, Xenon lights are more efficient with IR filters. Pila GL2 and GL3 have been tested with IR Filters using P4 and Q5 emitters; both emitters work perfectly well with IR filters (850 nm) as supplied by Pila. However, with LED emitters, the IR light spot appears narrower than with Xenon lamp assemblies because of the light emission pattern of the LED dice. Using Pila LED flashlights with IR filters mounted, it is important that professional night vision equipment with advanced Gen III (Omnibus 4 or higher), XD-4 or XR-5 imaging technologies is employed.

Pila LED emitters with CODEX 2 and CODEX 3 modules:
P4 and Q5 LED emitters can be driven with CODEX 2 and CODEX 3. The high light output of the P4 and Q5 LED emitters makes the programmable features very impressive and highly useful for safety and security applications.
