MILFORD, Pa. - Clarion Safety Systems, LLC, today is pleased to announce the industry’s first UL924 Exit Sign with a 35 year warranty – 10 years more than the 25-year warranty on previous UL924 Exit Signs offered by Clarion, and 3.5 times the 10-year warranty available on typical electrical Exit Signs.

A 35-year life cycle is made possible because the Exit Sign is made with patented, safety-grade Photoluminescent Technology, a passive technology that consumes no electricity, needs no special wiring and has no internal components – wires, batteries, bulbs, circuit boards, etc. – that can and do fail, and create long-term landfill waste.

The 35-year Exit Sign is approved for use in all applications that require a UL924 Exit Sign to identify emergency Exit doors. The Exit Sign is listed by UL, and is compliant with UL924, the Standard for Emergency Lighting & Power Equipment. Installed properly, a Photoluminescent Exit Sign is 100% fail-safe 100% of the time.

The 35-year Exit Sign also carries the Energy Star® label and qualifies as a Renewable Energy Solution and offers customers the potential for multiple LEED Green Building Credits. This is because the technology absorbs and stores existing light from its surroundings, then releases the stored light energy the instant light is dimmed or extinguished. The sign will recharge itself automatically when light is restored, a process that is now guaranteed to continue for 35 years.

The sign has been selected by Buildings magazine for its June Editors' Choice list of the Top 100 products.

“This breakthrough in technology will benefit our customers in many ways,” said Geoffrey Peckham, president and owner of Clarion Safety Systems. “The financial savings are real and measurable, as are the environmental benefits that come from replacing an electrical product with a passive technology that is so safe it can be used in toys for young children. But the most significant benefit is enhanced life safety; photoluminescent technology is fail-safe when it’s installed correctly. For 35 years you never have to worry about parts that fail, backup systems that fail, signs that fail.”

Customers currently retrofitting their buildings, schools, hospitals, hotels and commercial properties with this new 35-year Exit Sign will save all costs related to electricity usage, ongoing maintenance and replacement parts, as well as the cost of the 3.5 Exit Signs that are required to achieve the same life-safety service of one 35-year Clarion Exit Sign.

It is estimated that for each 10-year electrical Exit Sign replaced by a Clarion 35-year Exit Sign, a customer will save at least $4,583.22 over 35 years. Depending on the type of electrical Exit Sign being replaced, the total life-cycle savings could easily exceed $5,500 for each electrical Exit Sign replaced. The savings are even more for architects and building owners specifying the 35-year Exit Sign in new construction and remodeling projects because the cost of installing electrical wiring, including connections to backup power, is eliminated.
