EAGLEVILLE, Pa. - Streamlight, Inc., a leading manufacturer of professional lighting equipment for the fire industry, announced it has renewed its sponsorship and support of the Firefighter Combat Challenge, a yearly national fitness competition that attracts hundreds of competitors from U.S. and Canadian municipal fire departments at regional events as well as national and world competitions. The competition got underway April 2 at the National Mall in Washington, D.C.

This year’s commitment includes continued sponsorship of the "Streamlight Top 10," which honors the top ten competitors with the fastest individual times at each regional event, as well as U.S. National and World Challenge competitions.

The Firefighter Challenge is designed to encourage firefighter fitness and demonstrate the profession's rigors to the public. Challenge contestants, competing on relay teams and as individuals, simulate the physical demands of real-life firefighting by performing a series of five tasks, including climbing a 5-story tower, hoisting, chopping, dragging hoses and rescuing a life-sized, 175 lb. "victim" as they race against the clock.

The finals of the competition are scheduled to be broadcast on national television via the Versus Television Network.

According to Streamlight CEO Brad Penney, the company is committed to playing a part in this annual event, which has been dubbed "the toughest two minutes in sports." "Firefighting is one of the most dangerous, physically demanding jobs in the world," said Penney. "Streamlight is proud to support this signature event which encourages firefighter fitness and raises public awareness of the skill, stamina and physical fitness required in firefighting."
