1A, Highly Efficient Step-Up Converter with True Shutdown

SUNNYVALE, Ca. - Maxim Integrated Products (PINK OTC MARKETS: MXIM) introduces the MAX8815A 1A step-up converter featuring best-in-class efficiency (97%), low quiescent current (30µA), and a low-noise, forced-PWM mode.

Designed for input from two NiMH/NiCd AA batteries or a single Li+ battery, this boost converter provides an adjustable (3.3V to 5V) or preset (5V) output from a 1.2V to 5.5V input. When the output is set to 5V with the feedback pin grounded, the MAX8815A only requires three external components to provide up to 1A. For further space savings, it integrates a True Shutdown™ load-disconnect switch and internal compensation. A highly versatile and efficient device, the MAX8815A is ideal for space-constrained applications such as handheld communication devices, media players, and digital cameras.

The MAX8815A includes numerous protection features such as output-overload and short-circuit protection; inrush-current limiting in soft-start; and thermal shutdown. Available in a tiny, 3mm x 3mm, 10-pin TDFN package, this device is fully specified over the -40°C to +85°C extended industrial temperature range. Pricing starts at $1.14 (1000-up, FOB USA). An evaluation kit is available to speed designs and time to market.

Features:

• The MAX8815A is a tiny, DC-DC step-up converter that provides up to 1A from a 2.5V input using only three external components.
• This device offers best-in-class efficiency of up to 97% while minimizing total solution size.
• Maxim's industry-leading process and design technology enables the high efficiency and small size of the MAX8815A.
• The MAX8815A is ideal for handheld applications that operate from two AA batteries or a single Li+ cell.
