WICHITA, Ks. - Sam Solomon, CEO and President of The Coleman Company, Inc., has been named to the Board of Directors for Outdoor Industry Association. Solomon was chosen to fill one of six open seats on the 24-member panel. The first meeting of the new board will take place during the Outdoor Retailer Show later this month.

OIA is widely recognized as a source for outdoor industry and active lifestyle research and is the premiere outdoor trade group in the United States. Based in Boulder, Colo., OIA provides trade services for more than 4,000 manufacturers, distributors, suppliers, retailers and related trade associations in the outdoor industry and is the exclusive endorser of Outdoor Retailer, the world's largest outdoor products trade show.

"I am pleased to serve the industry on issues that touch Americans wherever they play outdoors," Solomon said. "The short list includes global issues of fair trade and monetary policies, global demand for natural resources and perhaps most importantly, the challenge of capturing the imagination of children under 18 in active outdoor participation."

As the head of Coleman, a subsidiary of Jarden Corporation (NYSE: JAH), Sam Solomon leads one of the largest and most-recognized brands in the outdoors. With more than 23 years of experience in finance, brand management and general business administration at global multinational and Fortune 500 companies, he joined Coleman as Vice President, Administration, and Chief Financial Officer on May 5, 2005; and was promoted to Senior Vice President Global Administration and CFO in November 2006. Martin Franklin, Jarden Corporation Chairman and CEO, promoted Solomon to President and CEO of Coleman on May 28, 2008. Solomon had served as interim President and CEO since Sept. 14, 2007.

Sam Solomon has been instrumental in developing a disciplined and accomplished leadership team; overseeing a major infrastructure investment at Coleman with the U.S. SAP system implementation in Q1 2007; leading administrative affairs in Jarden Corporation's Outdoors Solutions segment for Jarden's acquisition of Pure Fishing in April 2007 and K2 segments in August 2007; and accomplishing the integration of Stearns, Inc. into the Coleman business. Solomon's multi-disciplinary and multi-national company experiences, plus his role as Senior Vice President, Administration and CFO at Coleman, uniquely fit his role as CEO. Solomon earned his undergraduate degree in marketing from Rider College (N.J.) and his MBA at Duke University's Fuqua School of Business. He is a licensed C.P.A.
