OVTL09LGM series

Optek's OVTL09LGM series

CARROLLTON, Tx. - Combining red, green and blue (RGB) high-brightness LEDs in a 10 W, thermally-efficient three-dimensional package with a 120° viewing angle, TT electronics' Optek Technology has expanded its Lednium LED assemblies to include an RGB device capable of producing any color light. The latest addition to the company's Lednium product line is designated the OVTL09LGM series.

"By mixing the red, green and blue colors, it is possible to achieve virtually any color in the visible spectrum, including white, without using phosphor, which may cause a shift in color output over time," said Richard Saffa, vice president of Optek's Visible LED business unit. "The RGB color combination allows lighting design engineers to utilize a single Lednium device for accent lighting, architectural lighting, and wall-wash applications."

Additional applications for the RGB Lednium device include entertainment lighting application as well as interior and exterior signage and displays, Saffa said.

The RGB Lednium assembly is composed of three red, three green and three blue LEDs mounted in the patented 3-D surface-mount package that gives the device superior thermal resistance characteristics as well as its full 120° viewing angle, the company said. Typical luminous flux for the RGB assembly is 221 lm, with a typical on-axis intensity of 68 cd. DC forward current is 1.05 A, with peak pulsed-forward current of 3 A. Typical forward voltage is 8.6 V and reverse voltage is 15 V. Maximum allowable junction temperature is 130 C (average thermal resistance junction-to-board is 5 C/W), and the operating temperature range for the device is -50 to +80 °C.

Lednium series devices are also available in amber (595 nm, 330 lm); blue (467 nm, 60 lm); green (524 nm, 290 lm); red (624 nm, 247 lm); and white (250 lm). All colors feature a full 120° viewing angle in water-clear lenses, Optek said.

The RGB Lednium device is stocked by Optek's distributors in the Americas, Europe and Asia; production quantity lead times are from stock to six weeks.

The ASMT-MX00 series 1-watt LEDs are priced in the $2 range (depending on color) in small to moderate quantities. Samples and production quantities are available now through Avago's direct sales channel and worldwide distribution partners.
