CAMBRIDGE, Ma. - Endeca Technologies, Inc., a search and information access software company, today announced that Future Electronics has selected and deployed Endeca's B2B eCommerce solution as a key foundational element of its new global Web strategy. The centerpiece of this strategy, a state-of-the-art eCommerce store, was unveiled in late 2008 and features a shopping experience that brings together the best of today's most innovative consumer shopping sites with capabilities designed specifically for business-to-business buyers.

Future Electronics is tapping Endeca's market-leading search, Guided Navigation® and merchandising capabilities to power its debut in the high service, small volume market space, historically the domain of the catalog distributors. Endeca will help Future Electronics' customers to quickly explore, find, compare and purchase more than one million products and related information. As a result, Future Electronics can now offer a highly compelling and differentiated customer experience while boosting conversion rates, encouraging repeat business and increasing margins and order size.

Future Electronics' new Web platform was designed and deployed by Orckestra and includes Endeca B2B eCommerce, Microsoft SharePoint and Microsoft Commerce. Orckestra is a Microsoft Gold Partner and is certified by Endeca for applications built on Endeca's Information Access Platform, as well as its suite of search and information access solutions.

The new Future Electronics eCommerce store features an Endeca-powered user experience, which guides customers to the best product based on their specific technical requirements. It also gives customers easy access to related information such as 3-D Product Imagery, Application Notes, Models, Block Diagrams, Design Tips, Customer Reviews and more. Customers can search by keyword, manufacturer, part number, etc., and refine results - apply filters -- based on the most relevant product attributes and characteristics for their unique needs.

The site also features Endeca's search and browse-driven dynamic merchandising, which leverages business rules to promote products based on the buyer's interaction with the site. Often called "searchandising" in B2C eCommerce, this feature is one that benefits buyer and seller, alike. Future Electronics uses this feature to promote "Top Sellers" which helps customers quickly see what others, like themselves, purchased for similar uses. This, in turn, boosts confidence in those selections and thus increases conversion rates.

For example, a search for "toggle switch" on the new site yields 399 results, and presents the shopper with a variety of filters - manufacturer, actuator type, bushing style, circuitry, contact material, switch operation, lead free, RoHS compliance - that can be used to explore this set of products and hone in on the most desirable options. This list is topped by the two best selling "toggle switches" among the entire collection. As the shopper selects refinements, like selecting "yes" on RoHS, and "off-none-on" for switch operation, and the list is honed from 399 to 8 matching results, all in two clicks of a mouse. At the same time the filters update to show only options that match this new smaller set and the "Top Sellers" section updates to show the two top sellers for toggle switches that are RoHS compliant and have "off-none-on" switch operation.

"It is our goal to provide engineers throughout the world with the most robust source of products and information that helps them make better decisions, enable superior product design, and get their products to market quicker," said Rob Birse, VP of Marketing for Future Electronics. "Endeca provided the unmatched search, navigation and merchandising to deliver this user experience, while offering a unique approach to take full advantage of our Microsoft investments."

Endeca's B2B eCommerce offering is used by some of the largest distributors in the world to improve both sales and customer satisfaction. The technology was built to manage the large volumes of complex product information found in most manufacturing and distribution catalogs, and present that information to customers in a manner that makes it easy to find the best product for their needs. Endeca's user experience capabilities were designed in collaboration with companies that run many of the world's highest trafficked consumer sites and eCommerce stores. Business-user tools and dynamic business rules also make it easy for category managers to promote up-sell and cross-sell offerings products that are relevant to that specific customer's preferences.

"Future Electronics offers a great example of how innovative distributors are embracing the online experience as a significant channel for increasing sales and margin growth. Rather, they are designing the experience to be a primary point of differentiation that brings together the best practices of consumer eCommerce with the unique requirements of B2B buyers," said, Rob Swint, global lead, distribution, at Endeca. "By aggregating and creating visibility into the very information that enables engineers to make the best product decisions, Future Electronics has been able to create a site that distinguishes them from their competitors, encourages repeat business, and improves the research and purchasing process."
