DANVERS, Ma. - The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded OSRAM SYLVANIA a 2009 ENERGY STAR® Sustained Excellence Award in recognition of its continued leadership in protecting our environment through energy efficiency. OSRAM SYLVANIA's accomplishments will be recognized at an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. on March 31, 2009.

OSRAM SYLVANIA, an ENERGY STAR partner since 1999, will be honored for its long-term commitment to energy efficiency. In 2008, the company cut its energy use by seven percent nationwide and introduced the SYLVANIA Micro-Mini, the smallest ENERGY STAR-rated compact fluorescent light bulb on the market. Across the U.S., top companies and organizations are leading the way toward a more energy-efficient future through participation in ENERGY STAR.

Last year alone Americans with the help of ENERGY STAR, saved $19 billion on their energy bills and reduced greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to those of 29 million vehicles.

"OSRAM SYLVANIA is committed to energy efficiency in our business practices and in our line of ENERGY STAR-rated lighting products," said Jennifer Dolin, OSRAM SYLVANIA manager of sustainability and environmental affairs. "Our years of partnership with ENERGY STAR demonstrate our strong commitment to preserving the environment through energy efficiency. We view our ENERGY STAR partnership as a key way to fight climate change."

The 2009 Sustained Excellence Awards are given to a select group of organizations that have exhibited outstanding leadership year after year. These winners have reduced greenhouse gas emissions by setting and achieving aggressive goals, employing innovative approaches, and showing others what can be achieved through energy efficiency. These awards recognize ongoing leadership across the ENERGY STAR program including energy-efficient products, services, new homes and buildings in the commercial, industrial and public sectors. Award winners are selected from more than 12,000 organizations that participate in the ENERGY STAR program.

"EPA is delighted to recognize OSRAM SYLVANIA with the 2009 ENERGY STAR Sustained Excellence award," said Kathleen Hogan, Director of the Climate Protection Partnerships Division at the U.S. EPA. "OSRAM SYLVANIA's leadership on energy efficiency has yielded impressive results for their bottom line and our global environment, showing us all what can be accomplished through sustained commitment and action."

"The ENERGY STAR awards represent achievements the Department of Energy is proud to recognize, as they represent notable progress or sustained excellence in working to secure our energy future," said Richard H. Karney, ENERGY STAR Program Manager, U.S. DOE. "In 2009, our partners like OSRAM SYLVANIA receiving these awards demonstrated superb commitment to advancing the adoption of energy efficient products and addressing our environmental challenges."
