SALISBURY, N.C. - Shat-R-Shield, the leading and largest manufacturer of protective lighting products, today announced safety-coated fluorescent “glow lamps” as a new and special product offering.

The photo luminescent lamps are covered in Shat-R-Shield’s unique and flexible, shatter-resistant coating to offer a safe and dependable backup source of light in the event of a power outage. Shat-R-Shield GLOW® lamps can also be used as a portable source of light. They can be removed from their fixtures and carried along through darkened corridors. Even if the lamp is broken, it will continue to provide light while the protective coating contains virtually all glass and vapors.

It is recommended that Shat-R-Shield GLOW® lamps be used in conjunction with existing emergency lighting systems and building escape systems as they will continue to emit light even if backup sources of power are lost. The lamps will stay lit for hours from the time a power source is cut. They are great for use in interior hallways, exit stairs, underground parking areas, subway tunnels, mines and any other enclosed areas that may need to be evacuated.

“Unfortunately, we’ve seen too many events in the past five years where a large number of people have needed to evacuate dark places,” said Shat-R-Shield President Karen Ponce. “We feel that our glow lamps offer peace of mind for anyone – building managers to passengers in a subway tunnel – that when the lights go out, they won’t be left in the dark.”

About Shat-R-Shield, Inc.

Shat-R-Shield's history dates back to the late 1960s, when Jim Nolan co-founded a company which provided job-shop plastic-coating services. This company, Incoplas, was involved in coating a variety of items, from fence parts to computer buss-bars. The firm developed an expertise in coating with nylon, epoxy, vinyl and other plastic materials.

Today Shat-R-Shield is the largest manufacturer of plastic-coated lamps in the world. Considered the leader in the industry, the company continues the research and development of new coatings and coating techniques and targets new markets for its products through extensive advertising and distributor awareness.
