HARTLAND, Wi. - In a move aimed to strengthen the foothold of two key players in the $22 billion battery industry, Batteries Plus, the largest U.S. battery retail chain with nearly 300 stores nationwide, announced today it has partnered with Spectrum Brands, the parent company of Rayovac, a global consumer products company and one of the largest battery, shaving and grooming, and lighting companies in the world.
The partnership will expand and diversify Rayovac's battery product line, while providing Batteries Plus with more selling power behind its battery products for both its consumer and commercial customers.
Through the alliance, starting March 26, 2007, Batteries Plus stores around the country will offer customers Rayovac-branded battery products. The Rayovac products will add to Batteries Plus' wide selection of private label brands, such as Nuon, Werker, Xtreme, as well as other national brands such as Optima, Odyssey and Empire. The newly branded Rayovac products will include batteries spanning 16 different product categories, including batteries to power common electronic devices such as cellular phones, camcorders, cordless tools, cordless phones, PDAs, MP3 players, two-way radios, laptop computers, among others.
"By partnering with Batteries Plus, we can more effectively tackle the enormous opportunities available in the $22 billion battery market," said Sean Martin, Vice President, Rayovac Alkaline Batteries. "With a strong and growing base of retail stores and relationships with major Fortune 500 companies for commercial products, Batteries Plus provides us with the ideal vehicle to expand our battery product line."
In addition to Batteries Plus retail stores, the newly branded Rayovac batteries will be offered on the Batteries Plus Web site, www.batteriesplus.com, as well as through www.rayovacdirect.com.
"As Batteries Plus continues to grab an increasing share of the retail and commercial battery market, partnering with a proven, established brand such as Rayovac will be key to the future success of each of the franchisees in our growing franchise system," said Russ Reynolds, Batteries Plus CEO.
