"Smoke Tent" Display Simulates Smoke-Like Conditions
FDIC Convention Logo
EAGLEVILLE, Pa. - Streamlight, Inc., a leading manufacturer of professional flashlights for the fire market, unveiled a new "smoke tent" display at FDIC 2007 designed to help firefighters visualize using flashlights under dense smoke conditions.
The participatory, "walk-through" experience consists of an 8 ft. x 8 ft. x 20 ft. tent, complete with environmentally-safe, non-toxic "smoke." Participants can use the tent to practice with flashlights designed to optimize smoke performance, such as rear-facing lantern taillights, hand-held lights with special incandescent bulbs designed to penetrate smoke, and flashlights with super-bright LEDs that provide longer-reaching, brighter beams than standard LED technology.
"While most fire departments routinely train their personnel to use equipment, including flashlights, under smoke-like conditions, many departments may not be aware of recent improvements in professional lighting technology designed to give firefighters superior visibility in thick smoke," said Ray Sharrah, Chief Operating Officer for Streamlight. "The smoke tent is a way to help firefighters visualize the performance of these high-tech flashlights, giving them the security of knowing how this technology will perform in dark, smoky conditions."
Sharrah said that Streamlight plans to display the tent at trade shows and other major events, and eventually plans to make it available for special training programs for the fire service as well.
